Free

Each strand of yellow
Thick grass
Each one longer than another
Each thin flake of
Bark brown and brittle
As it sheds on the
Ground spiraling and
Twisting
Until the tree is
No more
Until each bark is
Free

Every brown and white hair
Sticking out
Of the tender hide of
The deer
The young deer roams
I roam in the sunlight
Elegant and
Free

So peaceful
All the beauty
Of nature
All just enveloping the
Sun so hidden yet overshown
Like a spotlight
Alone and together
The deer secure and
Free
